How To Play 21 & Tips (Basketball)

Twenty-one is a basketball street game. Twenty-One is played many ways. Twenty-one starts by people shooting to see who makes it first. Shooting is behind the free-throw line or the line behind it, called the top of the key. That person takes the ball out from the halfway court line. Points are scored either by ones or two's. Three pointers are made from beyond the three-point line which can count as three points. The first player to score twenty-one wins.

Points are scored by dribbling and shooting. Dribbling means to bounce the ball with one or two hands after each bounce. When a person makes points, in this version of the game, they can shoot from the free throw line. When shooting from the free throw line players can score on what point system they agree on playing. In this version players can shoot as many free-throws as they want for points. Players then line up on the sides of the key above the free-throw line. If a player misses, the ball is back in play. If a foul occurs the player may take the ball out and "check" the ball, if the person who commited the foul is the dribbler. A "check" means to take the ball out behind the line (usually behind the hoop) where the foul occured.

Players may the leave the game in case of unfair practice.

Variant Rules:

Twenty-one can be played to different point totals like 13, 25 or any number.

"Breaking The Ice" is when players shoot for takeout. The player who makes "a hoop" can score two points.

"Tipping" is when the ball is bounced in the air by another player by one palm or two palms. The ball can be bounced

in the air or off the backboard.

When a ball is tipped players totals go back to zero points for whoever shot the ball. In some variants of the game, players

can be "out of the game". After one or two tips players are considered out of the game. Players then wait until

twenty-one is scored. Players then wait behind the lines of basketball.

Players can ask players for score checks (usually when free-throw shots occur).

Dribbling is allowed during free throw shots.

In another variant players may shoot from behind the free throw line (at the top of the key) after shooting so many points from the free throw line.

Points then are more or the same.

Time-outs are allowed.

Double dribbles can be called for possesion.

Slam dunks can be played in Twenty-one.

Alot of the rules in normal basketball do apply.

Tweny-one was played with as many or as little people.
